Shift Away from Shift
I was excited when I found out Stonyfield Farm was coming out with an organic energy drink called Shift. Even though the flavors (Berry Boost, Power Punch and Strawberry Banana) weren’t all that appealing to me, I still picked one up and had it for breakfast the next morning. Man, was it horrible. This review from The Message Whore pretty much sums it up.
I don’t think I’ll be buying Shift again anytime soon. It has a terrible aftertaste and packs no energy despite the added acai, ginseng, protein and vitamins. I tried Strawberry Banana and it tasted like a horrible combination of old yogurt, apple juice, strawberry and banana. When I looked at the ingredient list, guess what the first ingredient was? Apple juice concentrate. Does that even make sense? My prediction is it will be discontinued soon.
(P.S. I swear I will start writing proper reviews soon! I just need to find the cable that connects the digital camera to my computer and I’ll be all set.)
Feeling Better Thanks to Organic
A farm owning couple from Warrior Marks, Pennsylvania decided to go organic and were pleased with the results:
“They both had aches and pains and digestive problems, and Cindy had sinus trouble. Now, they feel healthier. The solution, they believe, was their decision to eat organic food.”
I think a lot of people probably correlate the “feeling healthier” thing with psychology (i.e. they THINK they feel better, but there is really no difference) I’m no doctor so I can’t tell you otherwise.
Why Organic?
There are a lot of articles out there discussing the benefits of eating organic food. These articles are so frequent I wonder if they are even worth posting, but I’ll post them anyway for people who are new to the concept:
“People think people who eat organic food are ‘out there. I don’t have fear that there is pesticide on everything. Food is meant to sustain you and keeps you healthy. Don’t skimp out on quality.”
“Dupre Bacque said most people think eating organic food is more expensive, but in reality it is a cheaper lifestyle choice than being into things designer jeans and expanded cable television service.”
That is SO true. What is more important than your health and the quality of the food you put into your body?!
Taste Test
Do organic products taste better? A father and his two daughters took a blind taste test to find out:
Usually, I prefer the taste of organic produce because it tends to be fresher and has a stronger flavor. For example, organic orange juice actually tastes like eating a REAL orange while I find that Tropicana orange juice tastes watered down, despite the fact it’s 100% juice. It’s all a matter of opinion.
Amy’s single serve pesto pizza
I was really happy when I found Amy’s single serve pesto pizza in the frozen section at Whole Foods today. I said I would write a review for it, and I plan on writing full reviews (with pictures and ratings) very soon, but before I do, I just want to say that it was an awesome pizza! It tasted surprisingly fresh and the crust was perfectly crunchy. It also only took ten minutes to cook! Less than 500 calories too! It was a perfect quick lunch for an otherwise blah Monday.
No better?
According to an article in Australia’s Sunday Telegraph, organic food is no better than nonorganic food:
“Research shows most fruit and vegetables on sale in Australia have the same levels of nutrients and no traces of pesticides, regardless of whether they are organic or not.”
I have no clue if this is true, but I would like to see who paid to have the research conducted. Who knows? Maybe things are better in Australia, but they sure aren’t here in America.
The whole nutrition thing annoys me though. Some say organic food might be more nutritious than nonorganic food while others disagree. Personally, I don’t care if it’s more “nutritious” so long as it’s PURE and VOID OF CHEMICALS.
Taste the Difference

I have met a lot of people who refuse to try organic food because they think it won’t taste as good. I actually find that organic food tastes BETTER. Not surprisingly, there is a reason for this:
“Organic fruits and vegetables tend to score higher in taste because they are sweeter than conventionally grown foods. Scientists say this is because of the nutrient density of organic produce and their smaller size. Conventional farming methods are designed to produce bigger fruits and vegetables, but increasing cells size adds more water, diluting the concentrations of both vitamins and natural flavors.”
For more information, visit the Organic Center’s Official website. Their book, Core Truths, looks pretty intriguing. I think I’ll be buying a copy.
Got recombinant bovine somatotropin?
No more artificial growth hormones for cows in California!
“According to the Associated Press, the growth hormone RBST is already banned in Canada and Europe, because of the concern that it makes cows more prone to illness.”
Read the article.
This seems like just another example of the United States not caring at all about their citizens. If the FDA cared, artificial hormones wouldn’t have been used in the first place. Of course, regardless of whether or not artificial growth hormones are used, milk still contains hormones except it’s.. well.. naturally occurring, I guess you could say.
